This is an amazing movie. It’s billed as a comedy, and in watching the trailer you may think that’s the case. It’s not funny. It’s telling and beautiful, insanely deep and you will bawl (at least we did).
What’s so masterful about this is the story and acting and the cinematography, all intertwined in a way as to create a feel of desperation and the hope of community, or, communitas.
It demonstrates the distance the heart will go to find a way to feel love and give love.
It reveals the mystery of healing that can be found in true community with others who love in a way as to bear the burdens of the hurting.
It shows how people can dismantle status quo for the sake of love.
Please, rent this and watch it soon. If you have seen it, what did you think/feel about it?
I saw this a few months ago and loved it. I’ve been thinking about it off and on ever sense. I wrote on my blog that “It was a beautiful picture of brokenness and the healing that can come when a community of people chooses to unconditionally accept and love someone just as they are. And a beautiful picture of the healing that can come when a community of people allows someone the space and time they need to work through hurt and pain in their own unique way.”
Beth..
Thanks, that is well put. That’s the kind of community I want to be a part of, that’s the kind of community I want to be to others…
I want to see it now.
You’ll love it..and what the heck is a MEME??
A meme is a thought that gets transfered from one person the another.
Per your pizza and beer last night I added it to Netflix…
I loved this movie. If you head to my blog here:

you can click on the link that will take you to Kathy Escobar’s post on this movie. She had some great things to say about this movie.
I’ve found that anyone who likes Lars will also really enjoy The Station Agent. It’s a totally different type of movie, but similar themes run through it. And if you haven’t seen The Visitor yet, it’s a must-see
….and I rarely say that about anything!
